article Posted March 01, 2019 14:58:31The timber processing industry is on the upswing in Australia after years of decline.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the industry grew by 4.7 per cent in the year to March 2019, a rate of 5.1 per cent higher than the previous year.
The boom is also set to continue into the next decade, with the sector set to make $3.8 billion in sales and revenue in 2020.

When wood is harvested, it is processed into lumber.
It is used to build buildings, roads, and other buildings.
However, it can also be used to make furniture and other construction materials.
Timber products can be used as building materials, furniture, building material, and fuel, as well as for electrical and plumbing work.
With this boom in the industry, many have speculated that timber products may have been a key driver of Australia’s economic growth in the past decade.
For many years, the industry had been largely dominated by wood products.
But a boom in demand for lumber products was followed by a boom for other timber products.
Timbers that are processed to make lumber products have grown more than 40 per cent per year over the past 10 years.
A report by the Australian Institute of Timber Industries found that in 2020-21, the average price for a log had risen by 13 per cent, while the price for the timber products increased by 10 per cent.
“There is a clear need for timber products to meet demand and continue to contribute to the growth of the industry,” the report stated.
At the same time, the demand for timber is set not only to continue but to increase in the future.
Timber prices are expected to rise as the industry expands and as the population grows.
The report found that over the next two decades, the timber market could see a 50 per cent increase in demand.
Australian consumers are increasingly looking for timber to supply their home, office and office furniture.
Many of these products are now made with natural materials like pine, poplar and birch.
Despite the increased demand for these timber products, the market is still dominated by imported lumber products.
The price of lumber is set by the weight of the timber, not the actual product.
As such, there are significant differences in the prices of these two products.
