A group of GOP senators have called for President Donald Trump’s response to Hurricane Maria to be “unacceptable.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that the administration “must ensure that the rebuilding efforts of the Virgin Islands continue without further delay,” and said that Trump “must make the necessary decisions to protect our island and those living in the areas affected by Hurricane Maria.”
In a statement, the senators said they want to know what Trump’s “real priorities are” and “what steps he is taking to ensure the recovery of our island.”
The statement comes after Trump said on Tuesday that “there are a lot of things that have to be done” to rebuild the island.
The White House has not responded to questions about the response to the storm and has not provided any specific details about what those things are.
Senate Democrats have also called for the administration to be more transparent with the public about its response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
